About the Author
Katherine F.H. Heart, GPC, M.Ed., President of Heart Resources, LLC, started her second career as a freelance grant proposal writer in her 40's and "bootstrapped" her business into a successful mission-driven grant specialty company. She has earned the nationally-recognized Grant Professional Certified (GPC) credential and was the first individual to receive the designation of GPA Approved Trainer by the Grant Professionals Association. Since 2008, she has presented grant career seminars to assist people in answering the question: “How do I get started in a grant career and business?”
In this book, I offer many real life examples from my everyday work as a grant proposal writer and consultant. This start-up guide is written in a workbook format with engaging information about the World of Grants, the occupational opportunities and learning curve, a salary continuum and job growth projections, along with ethical standards of the profession. The content is laced with thought-provoking personal and professional questions that enable readers to explore their cause-related interests and meaningfulness, and the important financial prospects of this career path. The Grant Grant Career Action Plan provides in-depth activities to take you through 10 Steps to Get Hired (and Re-Hired). I discuss helpful "insider" strategies to consider in starting a freelance practice. The Resources section contains information for further study, including grant books, training and national organizations.
